Our School Day
Year R are welcomed into the Early Years building by a member of staff at 8.30 am ready for registration at 8.40 am.
Staff open Year 1 and Year 2 children’s classroom doors at 8.35am for registration at 8.45am.
This is a good time to give your child’s teacher or teaching assistant any important information that may be relevant to your child for that day, including any change in collection arrangements for your child after school.
Starting school on time is extremely important, as it can be very upsetting for a child to arrive late for school. If you arrive after the classroom doors have closed, you must report to the school office in order to sign your child in.
All children have a mid-morning break where they are able to have fruit and milk. The fruit is provided by the school and milk can be purchased in advance from Cool Milk each term. Milk is free for children under 5 years of age and for children eligible for Pupil Premium until they leave Hook Infant School.
Children are provided with a water bottle when they start school in Year R and are encouraged to drink water throughout the day. Water fountains are also available and replacement water bottles may be purchased for £2 from the school office.
In Year R children have regular access to the well-resourced Year R outside learning area as part of their Early Years curriculum, this area with its sand pit, mud kitchen and writing shed allows the children from all classes to explore, develop and play together. The children also have the opportunity to use the main playground, Playdale and field.
Break time for Year 1 and Year 2 children is from 10.10 -10.25 am. The children have the opportunity to use the main playground, Playdale and field.
The Year R outside learning area and playgrounds are all supervised by members of staff who are first aid qualified and all minor cuts and injuries are dealt with in the school’s medical room. All injuries are recorded in the school accident book and parents are telephoned if considered necessary
All school lunches are free for infant children and we encourage all children to have a cooked school meal.
HC3S provide our school lunches; our meals are cooked in our school kitchen and are balanced to give children the recommended daily intake of different foods. The children have a daily choice of a meat or vegetarian option which can be accessed from the link below. If your child has particular dietary needs please speak to the school office who will advise you on how these can be accommodated. A drink of water accompanies every meal and children are able to select from a range of desserts at the end the meal. Class based Lunchtime Assistants supervise lunchtime.
The End of the Day
The school day ends at 3.05 for Year R and 3.10 pm for year 1 and 2. Children will only be released when your child identifies the person responsible for picking them up. Parents are asked to make sure they position themselves so that they are visible to their child and class teacher and update any collection changes as early as possible in the school day.
Any children who have not been collected will be taken to wait at the school office until a parent or carer has been contacted and the child has been safely collected.
After school clubs
After school ends children can choose to attend an after school club until 4.10 including; Club Energy, Dance, Football or French. Clubs start at the end of the school day and usually finish at 4.15 pm or 4.30 pm.
Wrap around childcare
Koosa Kids provide a safe, reliable and fun after school childcare option. The After School Club runs straight after each school day until 6.00pm and is fully registered with Ofsted. A snack is provided upon arrival and children get a chance to both relax and take part in a huge selection of fun games and activities during the session. The club also offers a ‘pick-up’ service (via Walking Bus) from Hook Junior School direct to Hook infant School each day.
