Wild Things Spring Term 2022

Unfortunately, we didn't take many photos of our Spring Term Wild Things as we were far too engrossed in our activities.

We did have some frog spawn and the subsequent tadpoles to look after for a few weeks. A few eggs were taken from a staff members spawn for Wild Things to monitor how they developed.

We spent several sessions working on our "Waste of Space" which is our small scale rewilding project. We stripped the ivy from the ground around part of our car park and dug or pulled out any maple saplings. We then prepared the ground by scraping away the bark chippings ready with native wildflowers.
We made seed spreaders by using a pencil to push holes into the bottoms of paper cups. These have been kept for reusing as seed spreaders in the future, so we are reducing waste. These were then topped up with wildflower seed and then shaken over the prepared ground to sow the seeds.

We will be extending this "Waste of Space" around the car park over time, using a mix of seeds, plug plants, beetle pyramids, buckets for beetles and other wildlife features.
